11/25/2003: Criminally Absurd

Senate to pass Medicare reform bill after delay
from Forbes.

A seemingly innocent story about the government passing a bill "fixing" Medicare so our parents and grandparents can have their pills, right? We had those two tax cuts (I didn't mind getting my $300 back from the government), and this bill will cost at least $400 BILLION DOLLARS. Remember in the '90s when everyone railed against deficit spending, and the budget was temporarily balanced (by Clinton? How Enronic)? America is already heavily in debt to other countries. This is serious deficit spending, and it's only going to get worse. Free pills? What's next, free nursing home care? Attention people born between 1960- 1985: this is merely the first salvo in the long war of the elderly hippies versus us. In the future, Bush and those Congressional asshats have left us with a choice of doubling taxes or having the federal government collapse. Enjoy the free Viagra while you can, you hippie fucks!
