Greenspan Urges Social Security Cuts
from AP News/ My Way

This is the single most important issue that we as a generation will face. Our big crusade won't be civil rights, it will be merely surviving the avalanche of Baby Boomers retiring and demanding more OTT coverage like the recently passed Medicare prescription drug benefits. Think of what they will demand-"Free nursing home care is not a privelege- it's a right!"
The worst part is that the Baby Boomers outnumber "Generation X" 80 million to 37 million. And guess who's wages will be garnished to to the tune of 75% or more to give all of these lavish benefits to them? Us. Thank you Alan Greenspan for being brave enough to bring up such a grave issue right now. We have to prepare for this, and we have less than 10 years to do so. If we don't come up with a gameplan, we're screwed. The Baby Boomers will vote, regardless of party, as a bloc to constantly give themselves benefits at our expense and tax us and deficit spend until the whole system collapses.
Noone in Congress cares? That's no surprise- have you seen many Congresspeople who look to be under 50? We are currently experiencing taxation without representation, and we need to get up off of our asses and get into politics, or at least, start throwing out ideas about how to solve this issue. Here is an idea: why don't we do away with Social Security altogether and use the money to create a basic health care coverage plan for EVERY citizen, and not just the ones with blue hair?

PS-I discovered that prof_booty had posted the same article mere moments before. We stay on top of the issues that are important here at the Athenaeum!
