12/21/2003: Criminally Absurd

Jefferson Guilty, But Not Napoleon Says Mock Jury

A mock trial overseen by state and federal judges found that Thomas Jefferson, third president of our United States, was guilty of deportation, prolonging slavery and discrimination. This trial also found Napoleon to be acquitted of abandoning the French in Louisiana after The Louisiana Purchase was made complete.

O.K., I'm down with reenactments, but this seems a lot more disrespectful to the fabric of our country than I'm willing to tolerate. I don't see how the distant relatives of "oppressed" peoples have a right to interrogate a mock Thomas Jefferson for moving their people out of the swamps. Dude, it's a swamp. Your people should have been happy to move out of there. Not to mention that you can whine all you want, but there are basic freedoms that you enjoy because of Thomas Jefferson. The right to religious freedom? Yeah, he championed it. He also cut the military budget and reduced national debt by a third.

Cut the military budget? Yes, it can be done. They did it 200 years ago, it's not a new idea.
